His Excellency, Godfrey L. Binaisa (Q.C)

His Excellency, Godfrey L. Binaisa (Q.C), was until his recent demise a consultant in the firm and enjoyed a distinguished career in the law. He was an integral part of the formation of this firm and his spirit and excellent guidance will forever be enshrined with us and remains is a constant beacon, which guides us in our daily work.

In 1954 he joined the Bar as a Legal Associate with M/s Hunter & Greig Advocates. By 1956, he had established his own private legal practice with the late Mr. John Kazoora, under the name of Binaisa & Kazoora Advocates and in 1962 he was appointed Attorney General of Uganda and served in this position until 1967.

H.E Godfrey Binaisa was in 1968 elected President of the Uganda Law Society during which time, he became the first and only Ugandan to date to be awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Counsel. Between 1973 and 1975 he practiced in London, as a Barrister and thereafter, in the United States of America following his admission to the New York Bar in 1975. While in the US, H.E. Binaisa conducted several public lectures in over 20 states.

Most notably, H.E. Binaisa had the honour of serving as the President of the Republic of Uganda.
